Medina Cares Serves a Record Number of Clients in 2021 and is Tracking for Another Record Year in 2022
Medina County, Ohio. On April 15, 2022.
Medina Cares, an all volunteer nonprofit, nearly doubled the number of clients served in 2021 and is on track to do the same in 2022, again!
The organization provides temporary financial assistance and community resources to neighbors in Medina County ages 19-64 years old who are experiencing a medical crisis.
“In 2021, Medina Cares had the busiest year in its history since starting in 2008,” explained Greg Nichols, President - Medina Cares. Our volunteer client coordinators spoke with 92 Medina County residents to assess if and how we could help. We ended the year by paying for approximately 50 household expenses including utilities, rent, food, medication, car repairs, and more. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our generous donors, including 100 Women Who Care, and the grants received by the Akron Community Foundation and Medina Community Fund,” explains Nichols.
This year, it looks like the 2021 record may be surpassed by summertime. As of mid April 2022, board members have already taken 26 client calls and assisted 18 clients across the county.
“We will continue to do all that we can to make sure that people have the support they need to stay afloat while recovering from illness and injury,” explains Danica Zeise, Vice President - Medina Cares. “Our upcoming fundraiser will help us continue growing the number of clients we can serve.”
It has been over two years since Medina Cares has held a fundraising event due to the pandemic and social distancing requirements. Now, board members are busy getting ready to host a Night at the Races on May 7th, at Amy’s Rustic Event Center in downtown Valley City. The event is possible because of the generosity of Medina Care’s sponsors, including Transitional Living Centers, Inc. (Presenting Sponsor), Attorney - Joseph E. Doty (Silver Sponsor); and Matthew Kirlough, DDS of Family Dental Care Medina (Silver Sponsor), and Little Fox Bakery (Dessert Sponsor).
“We are looking forward to seeing our supporters in person after all of this time. Amy Hudson is planning a great menu, and Shannon Swank of Blanc Slate Floral & Event Design has done an amazing job teaming up event committee members Michael Costello and Holly Ponomarenko to get all of the event details right,” shares Zeise. “It has been great to see our board in action again as a team to make this event happen. There will be raffles, baskets and 10 races throughout the evening! We hope to see you there!”
Tickets can be purchased online through Eventbrite by visiting www.medinacares.org.
